Email Marketing Drives 18% of Sales for Online Retailer

Apparently email is dead, no one reads them anymore and we just delete them out of our inbox immediately – or do we?

We could show you some generic statistics but we're sure you don't have time to read them so instead, we'll share our experience.  Firstly, don't believe it, you may delete some of your marketing emails but we bet you don't delete them all.  And here is why we know that...

We having been working with an eCommerce business selling an artisan food product online for the last 4 years. If you are in eCommerce you will know there are a number of hurdles to overcome to generate 'new' customers:

  1. The consumer cannot try before they buy
  2. The cost in comparison to cheap supermarket alternatives

This is where we used email to enhance the customer's online experience.  We created a strategy to use email to inspire the customers kitchen creativity, sharing ideas about what simple tweaks they could do to enhance their food.   By sharing this inspiration plus using recent reviews and the latest product information the emails generate interest and sales without having to say buy, buy, buy.

On the face of it the emails are a bit 'fluffy' but through the use of various reporting tools we can see that their customers are engaged (opening) and clicking (buying) as revenue averages from £1000 - £2000 p/day following an email being sent compared to £400 - £500 p/day normally.

We also see a crazy peak Black Friday weekend which drives around £10,000 over the weekend from email alone. 

On the graph below you can see there is a direct spike in sales the day and days after these emails are sent.
