Meet Jack, the latest addition to the Dreamscape team

We thought you might like to get to know a little more about Jack...

What are you most looking forward to in your role?

This is my first role where I'm working on real-world code, so I'm looking forward to that. Computer Science at university imparts you with a lot of rosy idealism on code practices, so I'm sure it'll be an eye-opening transition.

What do you enjoy about development?

Computer programming is a skill of problem-solving, and as a developer, you're working on a continual set of programming tasks and issues. They can often be difficult to figure out, but I like that I'm constantly working on new challenges, and the work rarely feels routine as a result.

What's the most interesting thing we wouldn't learn from your CV?

That I'm really a jack of all trades. I like to have at least a little knowledge about a broad range of subjects, especially when it comes to computing technology. So whilst I focus on back-end programming for my work, I'm also comfortable working on front-end code, graphic design, and I can even 3D model.

What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?

I have a bookshelf at home with books I've spent many years collecting. I haven't read a lot of them, but they're nice to look at.

Do you have any hobbies?

I help to run a monthly event called Manchester Raspberry Jam, which is focused on a family of popular hobbyist computers called Raspberry Pi. The event started out as a user group for nerds like ourselves, but as the Raspberry Pi has become more widespread we've shifted to focus on education for children and grown-ups of all ages, introducing them to electronics, programming and digital making.
